Even a blind squirrel... July 01, 2010
Today I was asked to track down a bug in KioWare that we were seeing, where a particular API call, SystemParametersInfo() was failing. When using the argument SPI_SETHIGHCONTRAST, the API returns an error 998 (ERR_NOACCESS) when attempting to call the function within a WOW64 instance. In other words, it appears that how Windows handles marshalling of the API call is not being correctly emulated under Wow64.

Microsoft has yet to get back to me, but both the tech and myself believe it to be a problem in Windows. I was able to confirm it in Vista x64 and Win7 x64 when compiling code as a 32bit .exe containing calls to the function.

Finally.. back up. November 20, 2006
For those of you who check my site... ever... I finally was able to bring my MySQL server back online.

It has been about a year in troubleshooting this thing. It all started when I upgraded my box, and finally culminated in realizing that MySQL is no longer (by default) enabling the ISAM storage engine. Which is fine, unless you happen to still have tables stored in ISAM format. To make matters worse, Gentoo no longer give you a nice little USE flag to enable support for the engine, so you get the honor of creating your own ebuild. YAY.

So, things are back up. I will probably consider blogging a little more often now.

Messaged to Death September 27, 2005
I just read something that made me laugh, in msdn... under the docs for PostMessage(), there is a note...

Windows 2000/XP: There is a limit of 10,000 posted messages per message queue. This limit should be sufficiently large. If your application exceeds the limit, it should be redesigned to avoid consuming so many system resources.

You should really have something better to do with your time than to read teeny tiny little text like this, stacey.
