Finally.. back up. November 20, 2006 For those of you who check my site... ever... I finally was able to bring my MySQL server back online. It has been about a year in troubleshooting this thing. It all started when I upgraded my box, and finally culminated in realizing that MySQL is no longer (by default) enabling the ISAM storage engine. Which is fine, unless you happen to still have tables stored in ISAM format. To make matters worse, Gentoo no longer give you a nice little USE flag to enable support for the engine, so you get the honor of creating your own ebuild. YAY. So, things are back up. Windows 2000/XP: There is a limit of 10,000 posted messages per message queue. This limit should be sufficiently large. Definitions You Know and Love March 25, 2005 I was hitting the Jargon File by ESR, and noticed part of the definition for 'bit bucket' that I really liked: Another variant of this legend has it that, as a consequence of the “parity preservation law”, the number of 1 bits that go to the bit bucket must equal the number of 0 bits.
